West of Wells
The series West of Wells explores residences found between Ryland and Vassar Street in Reno, Nevada. Each photograph examines the house as an artifact of the past. By researching newspaper archives, I uncovered past events that occurred within each space. These occurrences include simple, mundane happenings of everyday life. They also include tragedies, deaths, and crimes. In 2011, the United States Census Bureau estimated that the average American relocates 11-12 times in their lifetime. Houses are temporary; they are impermanent spaces where identities are formed and histories created. The images within West of Wells seeks to find connections between the past and present and investigate how we are connected to those who resided before us.
